Group E is over and what a dramatic finish we had with Ireland beating Italy 1-0 to secure their place in the last 16.

The Italians had already secured top spot, but Robbie Brady's goal meant everything to the Irish as it moved them above Sweden into the third qualifying sport.

Belgium - who ensured Zlatan Ibrahimovic finished his international career with defeat - finished as runners-up.

MATCH RESULTS

BELGIUM

Belgium have never had as good a chance of winning a tournament as they do this summer. Marc Wilmots possesses arguably the best squad in the country’s history, with quality players at his disposal in all areas of the pitch.

Everton forward Romelu Lukaku has racked up the goals in the Premier League and if he can take that form into the Euros and link up with quality like Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne, then de Rode Duivels will be very hard to stop in the attacking areas of the pitch at least.

ITALY

Although Italy are four-time World Cup winners, their history in this competition has been a little less impressive. That said, the Azzurri are always feared on the international football scene for their well-drilled tactical organisation coupled with an undeniable flair.

This has been the recipe for success for many an Italian side of the past – can Antonio Conte perfect it this summer in what will be his only tournament in charge of the national team before he takes the Chelsea job before the new season begins?

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

The Republic of Ireland came through a very tough qualifying group to reach the finals stages in France. A dramatic win over Germany saw the Green Army finish above Scotland and set up a play-off qualifier against Bosnia-Herzegovina, which they deservedly came through as victors after two legs.

Martin O’Neill's men displayed their credentials in that win over the World Cup winners of two years ago and if the former Celtic and Aston Villa boss can produce more well organised and tactically adept performances from his players, ROI will be very difficult to overcome in France this summer.

SWEDEN

Finally making up Group E are another team who required a qualifying play-off to reach the finals stage, Sweden. In that two-legged victory over arch rivals

Denmark, Blagult showed that they have the right mentality to raise their game in pressure situations.

There is no pressure situation quite like a major domestic tournament though, so Erik Hamren’s men will need to be at their best to make it through this difficult group.

It may also be the final chance for legendary striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to shine on the international stage – would you back against him making the most of it?
